English: English Readers

Yes, we have readers too!  These come in 6 LEVELS of 8 to 16 readers per level.
This English Reader Programme, which includes workbooks, has been created as a supplementary reading programme and will be best suited to:

• Children for whom English is a SECOND LANGUAGE
• Children who are battling with English because of slight learning problems
• Children who do not enjoy reading and are thus not doing enough reading to become competent (our readers are amusing and of high-interest)

All our readers:

• are about the same naughty boy, Henry, and his friends and family
• are amusing and high-interest
• use high-frequency vocabulary
• contain delightful and detailed line drawings to enhance, not distract
• are 12 pages long

About the Levels:

Level 0

Introduces Henry and his family and pets.  1 sentence per page.  Written in the present tense.  Suitable for RA +- 6 yrs.

Level 1

About the house – each reader of the 8 is set in a different room or area of the home.  Up to 25 words per page.  Written in the present tense.  Suitable for Reading Age (RA) +-7 yrs.

Level 2

About the farm – up to 35 words per page.  Written in the present tense.  Suitable for RA +- 8 yrs.

Level 3

A meddlesome aunt comes to stay…and bangs heads with Henry!  Up to 50 words per page.  Written in the past tense.  Suitable for RA +- 9 yrs.

Level 4

All about school life.  Up to 65 words per page.  Written in the past tense. Suitable for RA +- 10 yrs.

Level 5

A set of ‘readers’ for the reluctant older reader – still about Henry, but of more interest to the teenager.  Up to 120 words per page.  Suitable for RA 11 yrs +.

We also have workbooks which accompany the readers!  Our reader programme is SUPPLEMENTARY to your existing programme, and works especially well with children who need extra practice.  (Detailed lesson plans available with every order.)

Grade 0

Yes, even our advanced littlees can begin learning to read!  Use the LEVEL 0 readers with your very own workbooks.

Grade 1

Use the LEVEL 0 workbooks in the first half of the year, with the accompanying workbooks.

Grade 2

Begin with LEVEL 1, and in the second half of  the year, move on to LEVEL 2.

Grade 3

Weaker readers – build confidence with LEVEL 2, then move on to LEVEL 3.

Grade 4

Begin with LEVEL 3 and move on to LEVEL 4 by the end of the year.
