Word Skills Grades 2 to 7

Very popular as they cover spelling, grammar, sentence-construction, etc. – a little of everything on each page. Each book has 24 pages. Pages 1 to 12 use a certain level of high-frequency word (the bold words on the right hand side), and pages 13 to 24 repeat most of these words, but with a different instruction. eg: End a sentence with “orange”. Copy “orange” out twice. Grade 2 ends with a drawing exercise (following instructions). Grade 3 ends each page with practice of the fairy e concept, while grades 4 to 7 deal with the homophones. Each book is graded but linked; ie grade 3 will say, “break into 2 words” but by grade 7 the instruction is, “syllabify”. Try to point out to teachers the value of the whole set as a continuum. Also emphasise the use of Word Skills as comprehension exercises as with each one the child is required to follow a specific instruction on his own.

All are based on the Kruger Park, with human and animal ‘characters’ and beautiful illustrations.
